πŸŽ‡πŸŽ‰πŸŽŠBiometric the month's rush ....... Welcome New Year 2018πŸŽ†πŸŽͺ🎑

This is the very first day of new year 2018. The advent of new year comes with lots of old memories and new aspirations. You must be wondering how is this going to be a biometric month? Digital Literacy is where we aim at by letting our valued subscribers know such keen aspects.

Now that UID(for India) or Social Security Number(for outside India) has been made mandatory by government to rollout most or all services , fellow citizens waiting to join the eleventh hour queue have a great news to relax. Instead rushing to your respective Service Provider you can also dial in 14546 from the number you wish to authenticate ( do remember to keep your UID handy). This IVRS ( Interactive Voice Response System) based authentication eases most task as it will be very much like calling a customer care number & getting the task done. For your ease following are the steps to authenticate :-

1) Dial in 14546

2) Give your consent by keying in 1

3) An SMS will be received on the number to be authenticated with six digit OTP

4) Key in the OTP

5) Complete the procedure by pressing 1 & bingo! You are done.

Oh! wait there's a glitch ( this is most expected if you are going trough a techno-process). If you possess an outstation UID you got to still visit the retail centre( like in my case I use a service provider in different province). But things working fine for home location provider.

Wait the story's not over, new year with new surprises. There is something about IVRS and the latest voice based biometric. IVRS as a technology came up with the use of Bell labs voice based system in 1970s. Though the earliest version of IVRS, the DSP technology was much more in applicability, IVRS took over later. In simple words IVRS is a method to use automated voice system to vet your task done like get an information, pay bills, order to eat and now even authenticate yourself who you are! The technology is popularly being used by customer care services and areas where there is a great demand for automated services. People usually confuse this with voice attendant but the service is different the concept is same. Several people have sought careers in voice response systems where in you get to listen pleasing sounds. You must have heard several of your friends saying "they simply dial IVRS to listen that melodious sound". In customer service domain the voice has to be taken due care because you have customers waiting on phone. If the IVRS is not pleasing to listen customers gets irritated. Sometimes a good & systematic IVRS is sufficient to get a lion's share of customer base. In career domain there are trained voice technicians who go rigorous voice trainings & diet course to deliver that service to us, very much like a melodious singer does to us.

We are aware that biometrics are crucial to human & machine interface. In the fast pacing world of automation & artificial intelligence biometrics have made service delivery much easier. Biometrics include iris, finger print, face & of course voice. Every human possess their respective identity in terms of these biometric features. Voice, a distinct vibration of a human's vocal chord or Adam's apple( common term) is now quite commonly being made use in voice based authentication. It is very much like your glimpse to a device camera and it unlock, similar to what a Google assistant does . Try saying " OK Google" in your smartphone powered by google assistant. That is where voice authentication works.

Modern signal processing techniques can slice up human speech (thus the “bio”) into thousands of readings per second (“metric”). Dozens of parameters, including the tone, pitch, size of a person’s larynx, etc., can be derived and the result stored as a mathematical representation colloquially known as a “voiceprint.” Decades of advances in both hardware and algorithms can even account for voices afflicted by a cold. This voiceprint acts as an authentication mechanism to provide various services the way other verification method do.Futuristic uses of voice biometrics include voice e-signatures (though a voice match failure of even 1% raises questions about the validity of such “signatures”), the verification of student identities in distance learning, unlocking cars, and the addition of voice authentication to social networking sites to prevent impersonation.

Voice assistants that come bundled with operationg systems make great applicability of this technology. Google Assistant, Microsoft's Cortana or Apple's SIRI are much into the procedure. It is expected that future IoT devices shall integrate this feature which shall prove to be a great leap towards automating devices.

Wish you a great year ahead and expect that we grow with your love & wishes. A warm hug to prosperous New Year 2018.
